The New NOW Resolution
Well, it’s that time again. It’s the end of the year and you know what that means…New Year’s resolutions. It’s the time when millions of people make promises about the changes they will make in the coming year…changes that will bring success and ultimately improve their lives. Lose weight. Find love. Start a business. Quit a job. Travel more. The list goes on and on.
There are people who actually keep their New Year’s resolutions. They plan and follow through and experience the joy of their goals come to fruition. And that’s what it’s all about right? The feeling of joy from watching the ideas you’ve given birth to grow and fulfill their designed intentions. It’s a beautiful thing.
Then there’s everyone else. The people who start strong and either finish weak or don’t finish at all. The people who have the best of intentions but fail to achieve because they failed to give the best of themselves. It happens every year.
The person who wants to lose weight starts exercising and eating right at the beginning of the new year. A few weeks later they get sidetracked for whatever reason. Then, a few months they get motivated again. Usually this re-commitment is caused by the need to fit into an outfit they’ve outgrown or because a recent photo of them standing next to someone in better shape has embarrassed them. So, they begin again. Then, just as before, their motivation falls off. They continue like this up and down roller coaster of half-ass commitment until December rolls around so they can begin again…and be serious about it this time (just like last year).
To give up on a goal is a common tendency for a lot people. This happens for various reasons. Fear. Lack of resources. Lack of motivation. Lack of time. You name it. And these are legitimate reasons. But used too long and they soon become crutches, a.k.a. excuses, which can be major dream killers.
Excuses are clouds that block the light of commitment in the endless sky of possibilities. Excuses will keep you on the couch when you should be working on your New Year’s resolution. Excuses can stall and/or stop a person from moving forward. That’s when the resolution dies. And that’s when the person finds new excuses to wait until the new year to start again. Well…NO MORE!
Who says we have to wait until December 31st to start delivering on the promises we made to ourselves to do better and do more? There is no reason or need to wait for January 1st to start putting your plans into action. There is no time like the present because there is no time but the present. Waiting until the new year to start doing what we need to do to get what we want is a setup. It’s our ego’s way of tricking us into believing we’ll get the job done, when in actuality we’ll more than likely flake on our plans just like the beginning of this year. This need not be.
This year, instead of making another tired New Year’s resolution, do something different. Do something better. Psych your ego out. Fake left and do the right thing for a change. Make a New NOW Resolution.
Make the choice right now at this moment to put in the work necessary to achieve your goals. The beauty of The New NOW Resolution is that it never expires. You can commit and re-commit any moment.
