The Fundamental Reason Relationships Become Co-Dependent

It has been clear that most relationships wind up being chaotic co-dependent entities that often end tragically. Why is this and can anything be done to stem this epidemic of unhappiness?

Absolutely! First however one must understand the source of this problem. So what is that?

Well, co-dependence is just that; a dependence on the other for “something” they believe/feel they themselves don’t have and on which they “depend” for their emotional (sometimes actual) survival.

When a relationship is based on this kind of quicksand of a foundation it is evident how one or the other might start to feel threatened and therefore seeks to shore up (often through less than admirable means) their emotional assets. Of course this only turns into a game of fear and control that undermines whatever love there might have existed and therefore the relationship itself.

So what is the solution? Well, to first address those perceived internal deficits one’s self from within and to come into the relationship as a complete and self sufficient individual! Does this sound a bit paradoxical to you? Are you likely saying to yourself “Well, if I’m already self sufficient then why would I even need a relationship?”

Well in fact you won’t “need” one, at least not one of the co-dependent variety. Rather you will “want” one that is based on love and authenticity not neediness and conflict!
