Self Improvement – The Chameleon Who is Afraid to Disappoint Others
There is a difference between a) not wanting to disappoint others and b) the fear of disappointing others.
The first is based on the heart felt desire to honor and respect the wishes of others to the best of one’s ability, without at the same time sacrificing one’s own self respect, self worth and self esteem.
The latter however is based on a fear that can lead one to become so self sacrificing that they start to play dishonest roles that serve to meet everyone else’s needs but their own. This leads to the well known “chameleon” scenario played by Woody Allen in one of his films. Chameleons will do whatever it takes to be liked even if it means lying to others.
Such an individual essentially has no sense of self and behaves and feels like a fraud deep inside. They also feel a deep sense of fear at being found out. This fear supports them in continuing the charade to keep others happy. All the while this person’s heart and their life are withering away.
This chameleon syndrome often results from the individual carrying a series of negative memories from early experiences that convince them that being authentically themselves is dangerous to their survival. Such memories act like computer programs that internally harass that individual whenever they have a desire to be honest. Of course this means that they are “seduced” into lying to themselves and others. Lying however, in order to survive, is an untenable strategy because it undermines the person’s self worth, self esteem, self confidence and drains their life force energy from within.
In other words it kills them!
To achieve freedom from this prison sentence, reclaim self mastery and self esteem it becomes necessary to uninstall these negative programmed memories altogether. This is now possible with a process I have employed for over a decade called the Mind Resonance Process® (MRP).
